Ocassionally, I am asked what is the right type of shampoo to use and the benefits of using professional products verses over the counter products.

Well, before I comment on this first let me introduce myself, my name is Steve Campbell and I am a professional hair designer with twenty six years’ experience in the business.

Also, I have been a hair designer for celebrities such as Sam Moore, Mary Wells, Henry Mancini, and many others.

Furthermore, I was a former technical educator for a Major hair care company where my duties were to instruct, demonstrate, and educate students on hair
care.

Ok, now let’s talk about this, to be honest not all hair products work for every hair type and texture because, there are many variables involved also conditions and factors we must take in account.

Hair types are (fine, medium, and course), hair textures are (straight, wavy, curly, over-curly, and kinky), shampoo basically comes in crème and liquid forms.

Furthermore, I am also asked why hair tends to stay dry and brittle again, there are many factors which I will cover but for now, let’s start by talking about different types of shampoos. So here’s tha buzz.

To give you a clearer understanding, there is a “Potential Hydrogen” scale that is used to measure acidity and alkalinity ranging from 0 to 14, “7” being neutral.

Many shampoos have a pH of 3.5 to 5.5 which is the same as hair, skin, and nails which is a great reference when choosing a shampoo; above “7” can cause the hair to become dry.

However; there are varieties of shampoos used for different
reasons where the pH level will be higher causing hair to become dry, brittle,
and break along with environmental factors.

Important! Read the contents in the product and pay close attention to sulfates, detergents, and added chemicals that reduce the pH levels
which have contaminates that may lead to cancer.

Stay tuned….
